This is a fanpage for the 3 OG Pokemon Starters

The first starters to be introduced in the Pokemon game franchise by Professor Oak when the players step foot in the Kanto Region.
The three pokemon are as followed:

  • •Charmander

▶ Charmander is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves into Charmeleon starting at level 16, which evolves into Charizard starting at level 36.

▶ Charmander has a lot of deign variations. In its Generation I sprites and original key artwork, Charmander is depicted with a small line of spikes on its back. These spikes are also seen on Blue's Charmander in the Pokémon Adventures manga, where the spikes are larger and easier to see, and on Green's Charmander in the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga.Additionally, Charmander is depicted with an inconsistent number of fingers in its designs. The original sprites designed by Atsuko Nishida for Pokémon Red and Green featured three fingers, while the artwork Ken Sugimori drew based on those sprites had four fingers. Currently, the animated series, movies, and specials, as well as artwork unrelated to games and merchandise, use the three-finger design; while the key artwork used since Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, as well as the games' 3D models and artwork based on those (such as artwork for Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!), feature the four-finger design. The number of fingers used for TCG card art often varies between illustrators, and even within a single illustrator's works; compare Boundaries Crossed Charmander and Generations Charmander, both illustrated by Akira Komayama.

  • •Bulbasaur

▶Bulbasaur is a dual-type Grass/Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves into Ivysaur starting at level 16, which evolves into Venusaur starting at level 32.

▶Bulbasaur is based on a frog. In particular, its short legs, stout appearance, and ear-like protrusions on its head make it resemble horned frogs. According to Ken Sugimori and Atsuko Nishida, the latter designed Bulbasaur working backward from Venusaur, meaning Bulbasaur was the last of its evolutionary line to have been designed and was also directly based on Venusaur. The bulb on its back resembles a lily or onion.

  • •Squirtle

▶Squirtle is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves into Wartortle starting at level 16, which evolves into Blastoise starting at level 36.

▶Squirtle is a combination of squirt (to spray) and turtle. The name was chosen in apparent reference to water guns, which were thought of as "cool" toys for children. "Squirt" is also a slang term for a small child.

Fun Facts

According to a poll conducted in Japan on Pokemon Day 2021, Bulbasaur ranked 5th in Kanto
placing highest amongst all three starters. Charmander is placed 20th
and Squirtle is placed in 25th.

In the island nation of Niue, in order to commerate Pokemon culture back in 2001
they decided to stamp Pokemon on the back of their currency, and of those Pokemon
were the three starters!

If Ash Ketchum had woken up in time to choose his starter, he would have choosen Squirtle.
